Clean, crisp, tight; light cover tape shadows; lacks rear free endpaper. Dustjacket with striking cover illustration has spine label; a two-and-a-half inch wide by one-and-a-half inch deep gap is cut from top of rear dustjacket panel affecting an Edward Gorey illustration from a previous Aiken book, ``The Wolves of Willoughby Chase." Still and all, a nice reading, keeping copy.
